PAAACT HISTORY
We are an organization of passionate parents committed to ensuring student academic achievement, educational enrichment, while fostering positive collaboration between schools and African American families with the result of preparing every child for college and career readiness beyond high school. Founded in 2013, PAAACT’s mission is to ensure African American students and their families have equitable access to information, resources, and opportunities leading to academic success and college and career readiness. Our commitment is demonstrated through our ongoing parental workshops, staff training, strengthened relationship with Contra Costa County organizations, and vendors that provide vital resources to African American students and their families. During the 2018-2019 school year, PAAACT successfully increased our parent network throughout PUSD. We facilitated monthly parental workshops teaching parents about Social Emotional Health, Suicide Prevention, Human Trafficking, Financial Literacy enrichment programs, mentorship, common core standards, & trained families on effective advocacy methods. We held our 4th Eighth Grade Promotion Celebration honoring the achievements of African American students entering high school this year. We partnered with the Black Student Union to host a Historically Black Colleges or Universities (HBCU) Tour which helped increased the number of students who were accepted and interested in Historically Black Colleges or Universities. PAAACT was also successful in increasing participation of early childhood and elementary families. PAAACT believes that student academic achievement is directly related to parental involvement and understands that it truly takes a village. We strive to continue our work to empower families and students with resources to guarantee academic and socio emotional success. |
PAAACT is the organization spearheaded by Ms. Marsh. The goal is to encourage African American parents to play more of role in their child's education in the PUSD. Studies show that a parent involvement in their child's education means they have better success. Parent seminars are held to educate parents on topics that make their families better which in turn makes our community better. |
