Parental Engagement
District wide monthly parental trainings/workshops at The Pittsburg Youth Center located at 1001 Stoneman Avenue, Pittsburg, CA. Parental Support
Supporting parents and students with mediation with teachers, counselors, and administrators. Connecting parents to student supportive resources. Teacher training Professional training for teachers at District for 1.5 hrs. District engagement Will participate in SARB Meetings, support District efforts to increase diversity in the classroom through facilitating relationship building between HBCUs and Human resources to recruit more black teachers and administrators. Increase parental employment within the District with application and interview support. Assessment & Evaluation Continue to develop research supported initiatives. Measure success through evaluations, surveys and interviews. |
Building a collaborative of partnerships with District, public & community based organizations
Work with PUSD administrators, MAAAN, First Five, Pittsburg Youth Development Center (PYDC), NAAACP, and various community based organizations to work collaboratively in addressing inequities. Cultural relevant events Host culturally relevant events to strengthen District relations with marginalized families, promote student achievement, and encourage greater parental participation. Our events include the following:
College & Career Readiness program Promoting college and career training early through elementary based programs. Providing middle and high school students with experiential learning opportunities to expose them to higher education and careers. Working with organizations to bring resources to families to provide information on college admissions, financial aid, and internships. Building connections with Historically Black Colleges and Universities to encourage students to pursue higher education. Working with school sites to develop communication tools to ensure marginalized families are aware of opportunities that exist. |
